Roguelike-Platformer Adaeus: Rogue Planet Needs Votes on Steam Greenlight

Adaeus: Rogue Planet — a new entry in the roguelike platformer genre featuring incredible 16-bit graphics and RPG mechanics — has now entered Steam Greenlight.

Inspired by the Castlevania franchise and the 2015 indie hit Axiom Verge, Adaeus: Rogue Planet features a world where even the plants are deadly — and menacing monsters lie in wait at every turn. Can you survive long enough to uncover the secrets of Adaeus?

Cut off from the rest of galactic civilization, Adaeus is a bloodthirsty planet filled with dangerous fauna, environmental hazards, and limited natural resources. Darius Cayne, an accomplished militiaman, has been tasked with investigating a new power source that could save his dying colony; however, what he finds is beyond anything he could have ever imagined. Equipped with a high-tech power suit and blaster, Cayne must hack, slash, and shoot his way through Adaeus’ unrelenting environments to make it back home and save his colony.

“Adaeus: Rogue Planet is certainly challenging. As someone who grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s with seminal Metroidvania titles, I felt it was crucial to offer players an experience that respects all those hard-earned skills. The very moment you boot up the game, you’ll instantly know that planet Adaeus is trying to kill you. Invest the time in suit and base upgrades, and you’ll gradually learn how to stay alive!”  —  Jeff Arnold (head programmer, OMGWTF Games)

The hero in Adaeus has access to an advanced (and upgradeable) research lab. Use Nanites scattered around the levels — and Credits — to modify the suit and upgrade your equipment. Featuring more than 50 different upgrades — everything from increasing health and strength to the amount of ordnance you can carry — the suit is the perfect tool to face the many dangers of Adaeus.

The game includes a number of brutal enemies, such as:

*   Spiked Dracaenikes that spring up out of the ground
*   Automated Drilling Androids armed with laser blasters
*   Rapid Fire Turrets that are nearly impossible to avoid
*   Other enemies include six-legged, multi-eyed alien bears … and poisonous projectile spewing bees!

Be ready for a fight at the end of each level. Adaeus features end-level bosses — including the massive Noxious Plant that shoots Dracaenikes whenever it’s damaged. Furthermore, each level is  randomized — ensuring that no two playthroughs will ever be the same.

Kill enemies, earn credits, and gain access to dozens of weapon and armor upgrades. Evolve your basic laser pistol into a powerful beam weapon by adding elemental effects (like fire or poison) to each shot, prevent your enemies from hiding by adding the ability to shoot through walls and obstacles — or show who’s boss by charging up the revered Hyperbeam. Upgrade your simple Straight Blade into a potent Shock Beam Blade, or Ice Blade — and hack your way through the entrenched wilderness. Increase durability by replacing your basic Combat Armor with improved Elemental or Displacer Armor designed to withstand Adaeus’ harsh environments. Even with these upgrades in tow, no planet deemed “rogue” should be taken lightly. You must be on high alert at all times … everywhere.

*   Customize your skills and mix/match/compound attacks.
*   Enjoy ultra-tight platformer controls.
*   Experiment with a variety of equipment, upgrades, and combat playstyles.
*   Solve interactive environment/puzzles with skills earned in-game.

Once greenlit, Adaeus: Rogue Planet will initially be released on PC.

The OMGWTF Games team grew up playing games that many other players did, but that AAA companies today deem too “high risk” to make.  As such, OMGWTF aims to pick up where those other companies have left off — making games they know gamers will love to play. Formed in 2013 by two hockey teammates turned best friends, OMGWTF’s first foray (of hopefully many) into game development is the Metroidvania-styled Adaeus: Rogue Planet.
