I want to preface this by saying I have no knowledge of the ins and outs of Bethesda in any way other than what I can find online or what I can assume/figure out/guess on my own. With that said, let’s get into my thoughts on where this is going to be located. Maybe.
I’m going to try to make this short and sweet, because I don’t want to waste your time reading a potential crackpot theory from a Fallout fan that’s based on speculation and all that comes with waiting. OK, onto the main event.
If you don’t know already, and if you follow me at all you would, because I never shut up about it, I’m from Boston, and still currently live in New England (LET’S GO LOCAL SPORTS TEAMS!!). Boston, as we all know is the central location for Fallout 4. What some may not know is that we have a big amusement park already in Massachusetts, which is Six Flags: New England. Here’s the description of the Nuka~World DLC on Steam:
Take a trip to Nuka-World, a vast amusement park now a lawless city of Raiders. Explore an all-new region with an open wasteland and park zones like Safari Adventure, Dry Rock Gulch, Kiddie Kingdom, and the Galactic Zone. Lead lethal gangs of Raiders and use them to conquer settlements, bending the Commonwealth to your will. Nuka-World features new quests, Raiders, weapons, creatures, and more. Enjoy the ride!
Taking the phrase “bending the Commonwealth to your will” hints at the fact that this park is still set inside it, unlike Far Harbor, which is off the coast of Maine. It kind of makes sense, because, as I said, we already have a large theme park in Agawam, Mass, relatively close to Boston (about 2 hours away, near Springfield – the birthplace of basketball!!). I haven’t seen anyone really talking about this yet, or, rather, I haven’t seen any big Fallout places talking about it, so I figured I’d give it a shot, even though I may likely be the 4000th person to make this revelation.
Yes, I would have loved to have gotten 4-5 story DLC packs, a la Fallout 3 and New Vegas, all set around New England proper. Living in RI now, it would have been really cool to take the occult Lovecraft sensibilities of Providence and have a horror themed expansion. We got our Maine camping trip already sorted out, and who wouldn’t have loved to go to New Hampshire and see the old man of the mountain, or get “trapped” in the Polar Caves? I have no doubt they could have done something cool and/or wacky with that in the Fallout universe. Alas, we have the knowledge of everything we’re getting and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed.
Priced at $20, Nuka~World won’t be as large or engaging as Far Harbor was, and that’s sad. It will be more involved than Automatron was, so, that’s a good sign, and even more of a good sign is it will be its own area and map, and, if I’m correct, we’ll probably access it the same way as Far Harbor, only this time, probably just above the Glowing Sea, if we’re going by real world location, and would take almost 30 hours to walk there.
So there ya have it. My scrambled thoughts on where I expect Nuka~World to be and take place. It just makes too much sense to me. At the same time, I also wouldn’t be shocked if it just somehow “appeared” in the map we already have around Boston and it re-purposes something already in existence. It kind of feels like that’s what the plan has been all along for DLC this gen with them, save for Far Harbor, because they blew their wad there, of course. I’d love to be pleasantly surprised with a ton of content, though.
If you want to get a glimpse of the final Workshop DLC before it launches later this month – and yes, I know some people are interested in this, it has “story missions” after all – peep the Tweet below for info on that:
What do you think? Am I crazy? Do you have your own theory? Comment below and let me know, and, if you’e feeling generous, share this around to any other Fallout fans you know of who may want to chime in on this!!
Click on and enjoy some random Nuka~inspired pictures. Or, don’t. I can’t dictate how your life goes.
I from Argentina and I was investigating the same as you where Nuka World was based but since I’m not from the USA much less than Boston it was very difficult to find the amusement park since I do not know the place and the neighborhoods and all that, I could only find out by My account Far Harbor that is Bar Harbor xD
Thanks to you I was able to get the big doubt that I had many thanks
PS: Sorry if you can not understand me since, i speak Spanish and use google translate xD

I can understand you. =o)
I’m glad you were able to come to a good conclusion. And now that Nuka~World is out, I have no doubt in my mind that this park is set where I expected.
I hope you’re having fun playing it!!
