Minecraft is heading to the Wii U, despite murmurs that it would never happen.
Nintendo and Mojang announced that the game, titled Minecraft: Wii U Edition, will arrive on the Nintendo eShop on December 17th, priced at $30. Those disc-based folks are out of luck, as a physical version of the game has not been announced as of this writing.
Minecraft: Wii U Edition comes with six of the “most popular” add-ons as well as a “festive mash-up” themed around the holidays. You can expect all the updates and expansions the other console versions have as well.
“We’ll be adding more content packs to Wii U Edition in the near future (Wa-hoo!), and updating the core game with free updates, just like our other platforms,” Mojang added. “As a quick reminder: all DLC packs are optional. You can have significant amounts of fun playing Minecraft without spending extra cash.”
Mojang also confirmed that you’ll be able to play Minecraft: Wii U Edition off-TV via the Wii U GamePad. More details about this version will be announced closer to launch.
