The Post Review

Going into The Post, I didn’t have high hopes from its announcement to its release as 20th Century Fox have marketed it as a “Oscar bait” film (it sure paid off, gaining Meryl Streep a Best Actor in a Supporting Role and a Best Picture nomination), which usually wards me off from seeing a film (see: Moonlight, Argo, The Artist, The King’s Speech and so forth). However, with The Post, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Tracy Letts, Bruce Greenwood, Alison Brie, Jesse Plemons, David Cross, Zach Woods, Michael Stuhlbarg among many others, that’s a film that I simply cannot turn down no matter how much I may try.

Logan Review

A longstanding issue I’ve had with superhero movies is that the lack of consequences (for a prime example, rewatch Captain America: Civil War) and that they don’t necessarily “end” for a lack of a better term. With Logan, director James Mangold (who also directed the previous Wolverine solo film The Wolverine) seeks to send a loud and clear message to Hollywood: sometimes consequences and a definitive ending can be achieved without ruining your plans for your cinematic universe. Logan is the culmination of a tale of a loner who found a family that showed him a better life so many years ago.
